I climbed out of bed and headed down stairs and we started making breakfast for dad. Generally on Mothers Day I get woken up to waffles and strawberries, but we knew that dad likes the more hearty food. So eggs, hash browns, sausage and toast it was. Halle was in charge of beating the eggs and setting the table and eventually we were ready to wake dad up. Halle put on her pink sunglasses and ran up to the room and yelled, "WAKE UP DAD!!", then quickly ran down and hid with me.
Dad came down the stairs and we had breakfast ready to go on the table. Gleaming ear to ear was Halle so excited that we can do something so special for her daddy. We sat down and ate, giggled and just talked. Dad really was happy.
After breakfast we played hot and cold to find dads present that we hid. When he opened it he found a book Halle had made and a frame with a picture of our family.
Taking a step back for a second, Halle has been making this book for weeks. Think of the Grinch making his gift all giddy like for his "girl crush", that was Halle for the last few weeks. She would wake up eagerly every morning and start drawing pictures and sounding words out to write in her book. She needed to go get glitter and a frame from the dollar store so she could finish her masterpiece. Finally when it was all done she wrapped it up and had it in the living room on Wednesday so he could look at it for a few days and try to guess what it was.
Fathers Day this year has been so sweet. Having a child who is so pure and innocent try her very hardest to show her dad how much she loves and looks up to him is incredible. It really teaches me what Fathers Day is all about. It's not about the material gifts that we buy for him, its not about Brandon having a day off where we get to do everything for him ;), but it is a day where we get to honor him and just appreciate everything that he does for our family.
We are so lucky to have Brandon in our lives. He is such an amazing dad. He works hard for our family and yet he makes sure to make time for his family. We never feel like an obligation. Halle can't wait for dad to get home so we can eat dinner and spend the evening playing in the yard, playing board games, going on bike rides and then reading books before bed time.
Love, mom & Hal
